Fanfiction Summary & Explanation

Warrior Cats is a book about feral cats who live in the wild. They are split into four large groups called clans- ThunderClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan and WindClan. There is also StarClan, which is the cats' warrior anscestors, who have died and now live in Silverpelt (Milky Way) and guide the cats that are alive.

Who is there?
In every clan, there is a leader (the main cat who "rules" the clan), a deputy (the cat who helps the leader rule the clan and takes over his duties when he's away or dead.
There is also a medicine cat who heals sick cats and speaks with StarClan.
There are warriors, who are the main part of each clan, who are toms and she-cats without kits and they protect their Clan, hunt and fight.
There are young cats called apprentices who train with their "mentors" (warriors who train them) to become warriors.
There are kits, who are less than 3 moons old, and they stay in the nursery and play all the time.
And last but not least, the elders, which are cats who cannot catch their own prey anymore, or help their clan, but they have great knowledge about the past and can tell many stories.

Name prefixes and suffixes explained:
If you have read other fanfics or seen Warrior Cats before, you should have noticed the weird names they all have, and probably asked yourself: why?
Well, in every cat's name is a prefix and a suffix- like in "Jayfeather", "Jay" is the prefix and "feather" is the suffix. The prefix is given to the cat when they are born, but the suffix may change according to their duties: as a kitten, their suffix is "kit", like "Jaykit"; as an apprentice, their suffix is "paw", like "Jaypaw". As a warrior, they are given their own suffix, like "feather" in "Jayfeather", or "cloud" in "Nightcloud". These can be anything that cats know, like "tail", "fur", "flower", e.t.c., so there can't be a cat called "Glitternetflix", because cat's don't know what glitter or Netflix are.
If a cat becomes leader, their suffix is changed to "star", like "Firestar", to show they are closer to StarClan than other cats.

The traditions:
You may have heard the terms: Gathering, sharing tongues, Clan meeting, travelling to the Mothermouth/ Moonpool, the naming ceremony and receiving nine lives from StarClan. Well, those are all traditions of the Clans. No matter what is happening, the cats will complete those traditions, as the warrior code says so. The warrior code is like a list of laws and rules the cats follow.
A Gathering is when all four Clans meet in peace and share all news they have. This happens every month when the moon is full. The full moon truce cannot be broken, so there cannot be fighting, arguing or battle in a Gathering.
Sharing tongues is a term for when cats groom each other and gossip about recent things. This can happen inside the Clan, or at a Gathering.
A Clan meeting is when a leader calls his clan to share important news.
When the medicine cats and their apprentices from all four clans travel to the Moonpool/Mothermouth, they share tongues with StarClan who tell them any news or prophecies that are active. The Moonpool/Mothermouth is a sacred place where StarClan come to talk to the living cats.
A naming ceremony is when a cat recieves a new name, like there would a naming ceremony for when apprentices Hollypaw and Lionpaw are ready to become warriors, and their names would be changed to Hollyleaf and Lionnblaze. Also, if the deputy dies, the leader must appoint a new one before moonhigh, or StarClan will be angry.
When a cat becomes leader, they must travel to the Moonpool/Mothermouth to receive nine lives from StarClan. This is only for a leader, though.
